Lola & Eve is an editorial photographed by Keerthana Kunnat, styled by Jahnavi Sharma, with MAUH by Chiharu Wakabayashi. The project was shot on a Pentax medium format camera. It tells the story of two sisters while emphasizing their relationship and the importance of family, the support that family can provide in reaching personal aspirations.

The viewer is presented with images capturing the siblings at home, a safe place, a place of comfort and confidence. The narrative can be read through the emotional layer, which is the main focus of the project. The main characters are seen together, close to one another, building their relationship. The hugs, the stare, and the proximity come to remind us of beautiful memories families can enjoy and the impact of such on their life, desires, achievements, and personalities.

The Story

Shrey Kathuria Lola and Eve aims to amplify the relationships between two siblings. It tells a tale of sisterhood that is shared between two siblings, who are young creatives taking their initial steps in their careers. I believe that in a fast-paced creative industry, we often overlook the significance of relationships that we have with our biggest motivators — our family. This story illuminates femininity, comfort, and a shared motivation between Lola and Eve. Through a range of delicate images, we explore the poignancy of love between siblings.

‘The colour palette was based on a blend of bright and subdued colours to balance the heavily-knit pieces. I wanted to combine this with some really interesting silver jewellery to accentuate the storytelling in a visually harmonious way.’

The Aesthetics

Jahnavi: On the styling front, I wanted to incorporate a range of knitwear and mesh, along with some playful pieces for Lola and Eve. The colour palette was based on a blend of bright and subdued colours to balance the heavily-knit pieces. I wanted to combine this with some really interesting silver jewellery to accentuate the storytelling in a visually harmonious way. It was all about keeping the looks extremely subtle and fun at the same time.

‘In terms of art direction, I chose an indoor household to shoot the project to emphasise the space. How your own space is a place where you have conversations — or sit with family and bond with them.’

Keerthana: In terms of art direction, I chose an indoor household to shoot the project to emphasise the space. How your own space is a place where you have conversations — or sit with family and bond with them. For instance, a hug from a younger sibling in a cozy living room can bring a sense of comfort and reassurance. Through the usage of an intimate space, I have tried to give body to this sense of comfort between two siblings.
